Sweetie Baby is 18 months old today! Where has the time gone? Happy 1.5-year birthday to Emily Paige!!! Mommy and daddy love you!!!
Our friends Tom and Becca gave birth to a beautiful baby boy this morning. Please welcome into the world Wilson Thomas Dressler...7 lbs. 7 oz. and 20 inches long. E-mail Adam at ajberke at gmail dot com if you want to see a pic.
Twitter. As you know I canceled my Twitter account three months ago, but I still subscribe to a dozen or so Twitter feeds via Google Reader. There is way too much real-time, pertinent information (i.e. Pole Night) that Twitterers send out via the interwebs. Between Terrell Owens and the North Carolina DOT there is a lot of stuff happening! So I reactivated my Twitter account so I can receive text message updates. Nice justification, huh? But no way in hades I am re-opening my Facebook page...that is just a waste of time! I won't be Tweeting very much, but if anyone wants to argue with me (Beth:) via the "series of tubes", you can hit me here.
This is my story, and I've got stickum all over my gloves!
Sweetie baby is 16 months old today. She is on the cusp of walking!
Today is our baby girl's first birthday. One year ago
today God blessed us with the sweetest, most beautiful little girl in the whole
world (pardon the bias:). Emily Paige has been an amazing blessing to Vicki, me
and each of our families. Vicki and I often ask ourselves what we have done to
deserve such a sweet little girl. The answer to this, quite frankly, is
nothing. God gave us this baby out of the sheer love He has for us. God's grace
is wonderful and amazing, and we thank Him each and every day for putting her
in our lives.
For those of you that don't get to see her on a regular basis, here is a quick run-down of what she is doing these days:
· She always has a smile on her face, of course showing off her left dimple.
· She has been crawling like a pro for about a month now.
· She waves “bye-bye” on queue.
· She can say, “Dah-dee” and “Mumma” , but she isn’t quite directing it at either of us yet. Sometimes I am mumma and sometimes Vicki is dah-dee.
· When she drops a toy or her sippy cup she says, “Uh-oh!” It is hilarious!
· Just this weekend she has started to pull herself up into a standing position…it is my guess that she will be walking in 6-7 weeks. Just in time for our Buffalo trip!
· She eats like a champ. We started feeding her “big girl” food about 6 weeks ago, and she likes the entire feeding process so much that she cannot wait to get in her high chair. For the first few bites she actually starts moaning because she is having such a good time!
· She is getting independent as she loves to be on the ground playing with her plethora of toys. Sure, she still craves cuddle time (especially from mama!), but her independence is starting to form.
· Now that she is 1 we have to double-check her weight because if she is at 20 lbs. we can turn her car seat to the forward facing position. This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but she will enjoy the view much better forward-facing which means better car rides for all involved.
· At this point we can’t tell if she favors one hand over the other. I don’t care if she’s righty or lefty, because she already understands that she will bat left-handed and kick the soccer ball with either foot.
Emily was lucky enough to have two birthday parties. The first one was in Coral Springs with Grandma Bobbie, Grandpa Dickie and Aunt Lindsay. The second one was yesterday in Charlotte with the Lambert/Griggs clan. She was a little over tired, but she still loved it!
40-years-old!!!!!!! Wow! Where has the time gone, kid? It seems like yesterday we were running around west Amherst and Williamsville causing one ruckus after another.
And now you have five - soon to be six! - kids of your own to coral. And I'll tell you what...those kids are lucky, lucky, lucky to have such a dedicated dad like you. You're the best, brother. The Berkes love you a ton!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Dear Emily,
Today you turn 6 months old…happy birthday, sweet baby. These last 6 months have been the most amazing times of our lives. You've changed a whole bunch during this time, but the one thing that hasn't changed is how sweet and beautiful you are. When you smile at us it melts our hearts. It's absolutely indescribable how much we love you. God has blessed us with the most precious gift that one could ever receive. Your presence has truly made us a family.
We love you with all our heart, forever and ever,
Mommy and Daddy
Happy birthday, sweet girl!
| From Avery's 4th BDay |
Avery had her birthday party at Monkey Joe's yesterday. A good time was had by all. Bounce houses, pizza, princess cake, a pregnant woman toppling over after almost getting kicked in the face! Good times!
First and foremost: Happy belated birthday to my cousin Mark, 39. Happy belated birthday to my cousin Genna, 17. And happy belated birthday to my niece Avery, 4. I love you all!
Now, on to Sabres stuff!
The Sabres traded Brian "Soupy" Campbell two days ago, at the trading deadline, for San Jose's Steve Bernier and their 1st round pick next year. Soupy had to go because he's an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, and his value on the open market shot up even higher after Boyle signed a huge contract with Tampa Bay. So we had to get something for the Flying Tomato. Losing Soupy really sucks. A few months ago I called for him to be made the permanent captain of the Sabres. But this is professional sports, and there was no way the Sabres management were going to pay him $6.5M plus per year for five or six years. And as much as I love the guy, he simply isn't worth that much.
So off goes Soupy to to Silicon Valley, and in comes Steve Bernier. Bernier is a 22-year-old French-Canadian kid from Quebec City. He's got good size at 6'2", 225 lbs. He's a former 1st round pick who was kind of lost in the shuffle in the Shark Tank. But the scouting report on him is that he's tough in the corners, and he scored oodles of goals in junior hockey.
So the Sabres pick him up hoping he can provide some good minutes each night, and we'll see what happens. Lindy Ruff promptly inserts him on the top line with Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek. Bernier goes on to have the kind of game that legends and movies are made of. It was a wild and wacky game, which the Sabres won 8-4. Here are the highlights:
All in all, an absolutely crazy night in downtown Buffalo. The Sabres are alone in 8th place, the final playoff spot. We are only 9 points out of first place in the conference. No way we can catch up to Jersey, but 4th or 5th is realistic if we can just continue playing with heart!
Here are the highlights. Not sure why Sabres.com didn't put up MSG's highlights, but they're beautiful just the same.
